Spin Klin™ Disc Filtration System
Background
The company is a leader in designing and building highly-innovative production and automation systems based in Germany, and they process cast iron, steel and cast aluminum.
Currently, their CNC machines are equipped with paper roll filters.
Challenge
The clean tank, equipped with high-pressure pumps that provide cooling for the tools and for washing the CNC machine, was accumulating a large amount of sediment. The coolant fluid reaching the machine was dirty and resulted in clogging on the heat exchangers, leading to increased energy and manpower expenses.
The existing solution was to manually clean the tank once a year which led to shutting down production for at least one day, additional labor costs and expenses associated with disposing of dirty coolant fluid and refilling with new, clean coolant fluid.
Solution
Amiad installed a pilot system with the ECO Flow 2.0 disc filter (40 micron) as side stream filtration for the clean tank, which operated for a 3-month period.
Results
3 weeks after installation, the paper roll colour switched from black to white, and the amount of sludge in the clean tank decreased compared to the control CNC machine.
Analyses Summary
An average 90% reduction of particles was achieved by side stream filtration.
This reduction shows that the particles were successfully removed and demonstrates the high effectiveness of the
ECO Flow 2.0 disc filtration system.
Upon conclusion of the ECO Flow 2.0 pilot system,
the customer decided to install a full-flow Spin Klin™ disc filtration system to replace the existing paper roll filter.
